滑雪不一定要有雪。金氏世界紀錄報導，美國選手強尼・克魯茲・白金漢（Johnny Cruz Buckingham）10 月 16 日在秘魯阿卡里（Acari）的托羅馬塔（Toro Mata）沙丘，滑出時速 78.91 英里（約 127 公里），奪下「最快沙地滑雪」紀錄，小幅超過法國選手馬埃・弗雷迪耶（Mahé Freydier）此前在同地創下的 75 英里紀錄。
EN Skiing does not always need snow. Guinness World Records reported that American Johnny Cruz Buckingham reached 78.91 miles per hour, about 127 kilometers per hour, on October 16 at the Toro Mata dune in Acari, Peru. He set the record for the fastest sand skiing, beating French skier Mahé Freydier’s previous 75-mile-per-hour record at the same place.

EN Buckingham has experience with extreme records. For this run, he and the measuring team set off early in the morning while the sand was still cool and the sun was just rising, because cooler sand creates less resistance.

過程並不順利。第二次嘗試時他在坡底急轉處重摔；後來又多次爬坡重來。第九次測到約 72.7 英里後，他們隔天清晨再搏一次。白金漢說自己當下只想著保持姿勢，「風聲越來越大，落地那一刻就知道一定超過 75」。
EN The attempt was not easy. On his second run, he crashed badly at a sharp turn near the bottom. He climbed back up several times to try again. After reaching about 72.7 miles per hour on the ninth run, the team tried once more the next morning. He said he focused on holding his position. As the wind grew louder, he knew at the end that he had passed 75.
